There has just been an explosive expansion of energy. You felt it. Some people were already leaning in the right direction when it happened, and they were lifted. Effortlessly. Doors opened. Clarity arrived. Momentum showed up as if it had been waiting for permission. Others were leaning the other way, and when the surge came, it didn’t lift them; it dropped them.

If that’s you, all is not lost. You are not broken. You are not being punished, and you are not falling forever. It only feels endless when you’re in freefall.

I know this terrain well. I’ve watched people fall. I’ve fallen myself, and yes, there is a bottom, but I don’t recommend reaching it. What I can offer you right now is not a rescue helicopter, but it is a lifeline.

Grabbing it will not feel gentle. It will jolt you. It may even hurt your hands for a moment, but it will stop the fall.

If you take hold, and keep holding, you can begin to climb. Not all the way out yet. Just far enough to reach the bottom rung of a ladder.

Seven days.

That’s all we’re aiming for right now.

The 7-Day Recovery Process

A once-a-day, consecutive, sequential reset

This is not about fixing your whole life. This is about interrupting your energetic descent and reversing direction.

One action per day. No skipping or doubling up, and no perfection required. Just honesty and follow-through.

Day 1 — Stop the Bleeding

Objective: Halt energetic loss.

Today is not about improvement. It’s about containment.

For 24 hours:

Stop consuming anything that leaves you feeling weaker afterward (news, doom scrolling, toxic conversations).

Say no to at least one thing you normally tolerate.

Write one sentence:
“The fall stops here.”

This is you grabbing the rope.

Day 2 — Reclaim the Body

Objective: Ground yourself back into physical reality.

Energy cannot stabilize in a neglected body.

Today:

Drink clean water intentionally.

Eat one simple, real meal.

Take a slow walk—even 10 minutes counts.

Say out loud:
“I am back in my body.”

This creates friction against the fall.

Day 3 — Tell the Truth (Privately)

Objective: End self-deception.

You don’t need to confess to the world.
You do need to stop lying to yourself.

Write answers to these questions—no editing:

What am I pretending isn’t happening?

What am I avoiding because it feels overwhelming?

What do I know, deep down, that I’ve been ignoring?

Truth is a handhold. Without it, there is nothing to climb.

Day 4 — Clean One Small Area

Objective: Restore order somewhere—anywhere.

Chaos feeds the fall. Order creates lift.

Today:

Clean one drawer, one corner, one surface.

Do not aim for impressive—aim for finished.

When you’re done, pause and notice: This is what upward motion feels like.

Day 5 — Reconnect to Meaning

Objective: Remember why you matter.

Answer this question in writing:

If I were stable again, who or what would benefit from my presence?

You are not here by accident.
Your value did not disappear because you fell.

Meaning is the ladder itself.

Day 6 — Take One Brave Action

Objective: Re-establish agency.

One action you’ve been avoiding:

Make the call.

Send the message.

Set the boundary.

Ask for help.

Do it imperfectly. Fear means you’re facing upward.

Day 7 — Choose Direction

Objective: Lock in reversal.

Today you decide—not emotionally, but deliberately:

What direction am I moving now?

What one daily practice will keep me climbing?

Write it.
Commit to it for the next 7 days.

This is the bottom rung of the ladder.

You Can Do This

If you’re reading this while falling, know this:

You don’t climb out of a hole by panicking.
You climb out by changing direction.

This process will not make everything better in a week. It will do something far more important.

It will stop the fall, give you leverage, and remind you that you still have choice. And once you’re on the ladder…

Up is up. Progress compounds, and momentum returns.

The lifeline is here. The climb is possible, and your story is not over.

You might have resigned yourself to recite the mantra, “Life sucks,” ad infinitum or may have heard the thought inside your head,

“My life is so awful, I could never amount to anything”

Have you suffered what seem to be insurmountable life circumstances that prevent you from being able to have the success you desire?

Let me propose to you that inside every adversity and substantial life challenge there is the seed of a brighter future, but it’s up to you to nurture it to see your life flourish either in spite of or as the result of a tragedy or injustice.

For instance,

A three-year-old boy abandoned by his father, as he grew he was moved constantly from town to town, struggling to make ends meet, reading and learning was complicated due to dyslexia and he was unable to complete high school.

A ten-year-old innocent child suffered familial sexual abuse. Unable to cope, she became sexually promiscuous, became pregnant at age 14 and lost her son shortly after giving birth.

A fifteen-year-old girl witnessed her mother shoot and kill her out of control alcoholic father in self-defense.

An eighteen-year-old boy whose father committed suicide following his parents divorce.

A nineteen-year old young woman was given less than a two per cent chance of living when she contracted an infection went into septic shock resulting in amputation of both legs and the loss of her spleen.

A twenty-year-old man with a dream, set out to share his cartoon art only to find himself unable to support himself became homeless, found a friend in an equally lonely rodent, showered at the train station at was forced to file bankruptcy.

A 25-year old burgeoning drug dealer was arrested at the Kalamazoo airport with over 650 grams of cocaine and promptly sent to prison.

A 28-year-old man burned over 65% of his body in a motorcycle accident, and if that wasn’t bad enough, four years later was involved in an airplane crash that left him paralyzed from the waist down due to spinal injuries.

There is no doubt these people represent those of us who face challenges that make us feel unworthy of accomplishing much at all, due to what might appear to be insurmountable circumstances.

Yet, even faced with such adversity, as these people were, they turned their hardships into the fuel that would lead to living lives that inspire as the rest of us admire them for the people they have become.

That three-year old boy became a well-known actor, producer, director and musician. You might remember Keanu Reeves from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, The Matrix, or any of the other films which have contributed to his notoriety.

The ten-year-old sexual abuse survivor grew up to be a talk show host, actress, producer, publisher, owner of her own television network and philanthropist, Oprah Winfrey, the wealthiest African-American in the 20th century.

The fifteen-year-old girl who witnessed the murder of her father by her mother is a South African and American actress and film producer. Charlize Theron has received acclaim for her work as well as recipient of the Academy Award, Silver Bear, Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The eighteen-year-old boy whose father committed suicide following his parents’ divorce turned his attention toward sports and ended up playing for the Boston Celtics. Larry Bird is a 12-time NBA All-Star, won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics and currently serves as team president of the Indiana Pacers.

The nineteen-year old who lost her legs is an American actress, model, world-class snowboarder and 2014 Paralympic bronze medalist, co-founder of Adaptive Action Sports, professional motivational speaker, clothing designer and author, Amy Purdy.

The twenty-year-old bankrupt cartoonist who befriended a mouse was entrepreneur, animator, voice actor and film producer, Walt Disney won twenty-two Oscars, two Golden Globe Special Achievement Awards and an Emmy Award, among other honors. As well as founding Disneyland, Disney World and EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow).

The 25-year old imprisoned drug dealer survived his prison sentence using humor as his coping mechanism. Following his release, he tried standup comedy on a dare, and developed his “toolman” persona based on personalities of other prison inmate personalities. Actor and comedian, Tim Allen is best-known for his ABC television show Home Improvement and has enjoyed success during his Hollywood film career.

28-year-old man with the worst luck of all became known as W Mitchell, an American motivational speaker and businessman. He lives in Santa Barbara, California and maintains a second home in Hawaii, is a millionaire, former member of the United States Marine Corps, a paraplegic, and was elected mayor.

… And you think you had it bad.

What’s your excuse?

There is treasure in your tragedy

only you have the key
