Accused of Love, Growth, and Toxic Positivity

As an Olympian Life Coach, I’ve been called a lot of things; some kind, some not so much. I’ve been labeled “The Love Guru,” accused of spreading “toxic positivity,” and even scolded by well-meaning Christians who say I’ve gone off the rails because I devote my life and abilities to anyone, people from every walk of life, from every belief system, every background. “You’re co-mingling with the lost,” they say. Honestly? That kind of cracks me up. Because if I’m being attacked from every possible angle, it tells me I’m doing something right, I’m not choosing sides, I’m choosing love.

When I scroll through social media, I see brave souls who dare to lead with their hearts, to be open, vulnerable, and authentic, and they’re attacked for it. Trolls and wounded people come out swinging, desperate to find some sense of control or purpose. For a fleeting moment, tearing someone else down gives them a spark of significance.

And as strange as it sounds, I say, good for them.

If criticizing someone is the only way they can feel a little better about themselves today, I hope it helps. Because there’s so much despair in the world, and sometimes even the smallest relief from pain is the best a person can find.

Unless you walk in my world, the world of coaching, healing, transformation, you might never see how close to the edge some people live every single day. For some, just waking up is a victory. Just breathing is a miracle. To attack someone who’s hanging on by a thread? That’s more than unkind, it’s inhuman.

Inhumanity isn’t about cruelty on a battlefield or evil in a headline, it’s the quiet, everyday lack of compassion. It’s the refusal to let another person have their dignity, their struggle, their own process of becoming.

And this modern state of extreme polarity, “If you don’t think like me, I hate you,” only feeds that inhumanity. I see it every day.

When I work with someone breaking free from a toxic relationship, I know what’s coming; I’ll be attacked. Not by the one who’s healing, but by the abuser who feels their control slipping away. People on the antisocial spectrum, narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths, are masters of manipulation. They rally others to shame, ridicule, or destroy anyone who threatens their grip on another soul. They’re skilled at turning healing into heresy.

People often see my clients in a moment of transformation, not the beginning, not the end, but a single snapshot of their becoming. They might look overly enthusiastic, radiant, hopeful, even too positive. And someone will whisper, “That’s toxic positivity.”

What they don’t realize is that they’re witnessing the messy middle, the moment where the light first breaks through the storm clouds. Granted, they have not progressed to a state of balance, and who could blame them for being a little over-excited about a significant life-change. (I know, I’ve done it.)

Should we judge a butterfly by the awkwardness of its chrysalis?

Growth is never linear. It’s a constant metamorphosis. You’ll see glimpses of both darkness and light in people as they evolve. Some are learning how to hold joy for the first time without guilt. Some are just discovering what hope feels like again. And yes, it might look too bright, but I’d rather see too much light than none at all.

“Toxic positivity” is when optimism becomes denial, when we force a smile to avoid pain, suppress our emotions, or shame others for feeling sad, angry, or broken. It’s the refusal to acknowledge the full human experience, pretending everything’s fine when it’s not.

But real positivity isn’t toxic. It’s compassionate. It says, “Yes, this hurts, but we can still find meaning, growth, and love here.”

Toxic positivity dismisses pain. True positivity integrates it.

Toxic spirituality is similar, it’s when people use spiritual language to bypass reality. “Everything happens for a reason,” “You manifested this,” “Just raise your vibration,” all valid ideas in the right context, but when used to dismiss real suffering, they become weapons instead of wisdom.

Real spirituality walks with the broken, not around them.

So maybe, before we judge someone for being “too positive,” “too spiritual,” or “too open,” we can pause and remember that everyone is doing the best they can with what they have, in the moment they’re in.

If you catch someone in the act of transformation, celebrate them. Don’t tear them down. Because love isn’t toxic. Growth isn’t fake. And the heart that dares to feel deeply is not weak, it’s divine.

I love you, and I believe that growth and change are waiting for you just around the corner.

You Are the Game Changer

You look around and you can see other people living their lives… Some of them are living far better lives than you, and you think to yourself, “I’d like to have a go at a better life.” And almost immediately after you’ve had the thought the negative inner voices begin to sound off and you hear, “But I’m not educated, or good enough to live a better life.”

As if you’ve been led to believe that you are somehow less deserving of living a better life because of your lack of education, your family doesn’t have a high ranking in the community, you’re finding it hard to keep up with the Joneses, or you are so far removed from the Joneses that you can’t even imagine what it might be like to compete with them.

Let me tell you, there are people far worse off than you who have made the leap from the day-in-day-out mediocre rat race life leading nowhere to immensely successful and satisfying life, without a proper education, financial backing, fine upbringing, or any help from someone else.

What separates these people from the masses?

They did something that society hopes you will never do: Awaken. Awaken to the knowledge that this life is a game. It’s been set up by someone else to play you as a pawn in the game of life. You’ve been programmed since birth to believe that you are supposed to just play your part and feel as though doing anything else is impossible for you.

If you’re not feeling like you’re good enough, the creators of the game can sit back in their easy chairs patting themselves of the back for a game well-played, because they’ve built a set of rules for you to play by which state that you are not good enough to be a real player.

It’s All A Game

The truth is, you’ve come to this planet not only to be a player, but to play the game so masterfully that you can create your own game rules and reinvent the game altogether, but you will only have awareness of this gift in those moments of consciousness when you have clarity.

In those moments, you can see that this life is only a game and you are being played by the game players and makers, but it’s not long when your attention is grabbed by the millions of distractors which pull your attention back down into the gameplay.

There are those, and you may be one of them, who are focusing their attention on higher perspectives which gives these particular people the ability to see the gameplay from somewhat of an aerial view. From this vantage point, they can see the game for what it is.

From here, it is easy to see that you are far more than you’ve ever been allowed to think you are. You are perfect in every way. Your life has meaning and purpose. You can have the life and love you’ve always dreamed of.

And all those not-good-enough routines you’ve been running over and over as a result of your social programming are illusions, which you’ve been coerced to believe but have not real substance whatsoever.

You are free, you are powerful, you do not need anything to achieve your highest and best but the love and life that was your birthright. God has given you everything you need to live a better life, your best life, and make the world a better place, but the gamers took it away from you.

Not anymore.

You’re awakening.

You Are the Game Changer

You’re getting ready to play your own game by your own rules.

You have arrived, as if for the first time, and you are alive. More alive than you’ve ever been allowed to think you could be, and you are far better than good enough.

You are a masterful creator getting ready to unleash your message, gifts, special abilities, and launch your mission and pave the way for a better world for all creation.

You are the light in the darkness. And as you shine your light, it will be seen like a lighthouse’s beacon in the night to be seen by others who are also having moments of clarity. Your light will be an inspiration for others, helping them find their way to seeing the game from a higher perspective.

The time for change is now. We are awakening and the world is changing.

The day is coming when the game of life will no longer be played in the way that we know it as being played today. It is unsustainable, and the revolutionary evolution of the new game is taking place right now. You are part of this change.

You are the game changer.
